Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year
The Honors program at Rancho Buena Vista offers a wide variety of courses for academically motivated students. In addition to our Advanced Placement classes, RBV is fortunate to be an official member of the International Baccalaureate Organization, a prestigious, worldwide program that offers an incredibly rigorous two-year pre-university course of study, leading to examinations, that meets the needs of the highly motivated eleventh and twelfth grade student. At Rancho, students can opt to take single subject AP and IB exams. Yet those students who wish to challenge themselves at the highest level and receive an unparalleled preparation for their college studies may strive for the full IB diploma.
Exciting Events:
- Over 100 students attended our 2nd IB Think Tank that took place on November 10th. Ben Keesey, CEO of the Invisible Children organization, motivated the students by explaining his growth as a humanitarian and his interpretations of the IB Community Theme, “Sharing Our Humanity.” Following his presentation, our students met in groups to explore how this theme is alive at RBV. Their insight and energy was inspirational and truly a joy to experience.
- Our next IB Think Tank will take place Tuesday, January 13th, in the PAC at 7:00 PM. Please encourage your students to attend. All are welcome.
- On February 2nd, our Full IB Diploma students will be honored with an Extended Essay Celebration as they submit their final drafts of these 4,000 word independent research projects. The Extended Essay allows the students the opportunity to investigate a topic of individual interest and to become acquainted with research skills expected at the university level. We are so proud of their efforts!
Other News:
AP EXAM REGISTRATION IS COMING! Registration will be conducted from February 9th to March 12th. I will send a detailed letter home regarding the process. The cost of each exam is $86.00. Financial assistance is available for qualified students. Completed requests for financial aid must be submitted to the IB office no later than February 20th. Forms will be available in the IB office.
Also coming, of course, is…RANCH REVUE! The proceeds from this annual fundraiser are used to provide assistance to students needing help meeting the costs of external examinations and to provide scholarships for college bound Rancho graduates. Don’t miss the fun!
